What it is.
This is the next step and builds upon the work done in Personal Legend™. Essay Alchemy™ is the development and implementation of a strategy for the completion of your MBA admissions essays. It is your secret weapon in essay prep and will equip you to write passionate, insightful essays that will reveal who you are, what you want and the role business school plays in helping you to achieve it. The MBA Admissions process is ultimately about telling your story via essays with clarity, insight and passion. Via Essay Alchemy, I help you see what’s possible and guide you to the best course of action.
Who it is for.
Essay Alchemy™ is suitable for anyone who is applying to graduate business school and requires assistance with MBA application essays. You’ll want to begin this work as soon as essays become available. You will have a lot of information to organize and prepare as well as a host of deadlines to meet.
Why you need it.
MBA Admissions essays are a critical component of the application yet their importance is often underestimated and overlooked because applicants mistakenly assume that strong stats — competitive GMATs and stellar grades are enough. Successful applicants realize that essays represent your opportunity to speak to the Adcom directly. They want to get to know you – your interests, values, plans and passions. And they want to hear it in your voice.
Most of us do not have the perspective to identify those gems of experience that will captivate an MBA Admissions audience because we are too close and take our experiences for granted. The MBA admissions process is an introspective one so you want to work with someone who “gets” you, who you can trust and who understands the intricacy of each step of the process well enough to guide you through it. In addition, it can be helpful to have an unbiased supporter and cheerleader during this process, someone who will help silence your inner critic, identify your blind spots and applaud what makes you special.
Don’t go it alone and risk submitting wooden, uninspiring, clichéd essays. This is the part of the process where you have complete control. Take charge!
How it works.
Essay Alchemy is the process of sharing your Personal Legend™ (aka Admissions Branding Statement) via your essays.
Each application requires you to complete a series of 3-5 questions per application that when reviewed as a whole should illustrate to the MBA Admissions Committee a cohesive and insightful picture of who you are.
This isn’t a standard-issue editing service. I put on my marketer and storytelling hat and brainstorm with you on how best to share your brilliance while also uncovering what the MBA application essay questions are asking.
We look at the themes in your Personal Legend branding statement and develop a strategy regarding addressing the questions so you will present your experience to your best advantage. We do this by inventorying your life experiences and identifying stories that support and illustrate your key themes.
I don’t write the essays for you or manufacture a persona for the benefit of the Adcom. There is no formula and there are no shortcuts. This is an introspective process which requires hard work. You’ve spent your life accumulating the ideas, information and experience that have made you who you are. I help you unearth what’s already there — unlock your genius and facilitate the idea-generating process so that meaningful ideas flow out of you.

Essay Alchemy™ Consultations
- If you have haven’t already done so, I recommend scheduling a Personal Legend Session before embarking on Essay Alchemy as it will powerfully inform this process. You don’t want to begin writing without a roadmap.
- The fun begins! We work on a set of essay questions for your chosen school(s), consult your themes, inventory your life experiences and identify inspiring stories to support your core branding message.
- Each Essay Alchemy experience starts with a personalized brainstorming session. We meet for 3 sessions and take time to rediscover and uncover those moments that best illustrate who you are. We also dive into outlining and writing.
- You will also receive three rounds of reviews per set of essays as it usually takes that long to produce a compelling set of essays.
